The Hambleton Project

Client Services

The Hambleton Project provides client services to lesbians with cancer and other life threatening conditions, and their caregivers.

  • Assist support teams by providing services if there are needs that are not being addressed
  • Serve as a contact for out-of-town patients and family coming to the Portland area for cancer treatment
  • Outreach to healthcare providers on behalf of lesbians with breast cancer

Bereavement and Support Groups
in Portland and Salem

HP offers grief and support groups for lesbians and women who partner with women. You do not have to be a member of the Hambleton Project, and the groups are offered at no charge.

Grief is not linear, and does not follow a calendar.

  • Bereavement group in Portland led by Beth Rumi, RN, LCSW. Hollywood District, Thursday nights for eight consecutive weeks beginning in April.
  • Support group in Portland led by Kim Jacobowitz and MaryBeth Kurilo. Meets in Southeast Portland every other Sunday; ongoing.
  • Support group in Salem leb by Victoria Hellman and Kay Peterson.Meets every other Tuesday at Salem Hospital Outpatient Radiation Oncology Department. 875 Oak Street SE, 6:30pm - 8:30 pm. Meets through June 2004.

We urge Health Care Providers to:

Call the Hambleton Project for materials to place in their offices.
Mention the Hambleton Project as a resource for lesbian patients.
Invite project volunteers to speak at professional and staff meetings.
Attend Removing the Barriers training (see Calendar for details).
